Archbishop Justin Welby’s visit to Barbados


The Archbishop of Canterbury, The Most Rev’d, The Hon. Justin Welby and Mrs Welby will be visiting Barbados from August 8-10, 2013.{{more}}

Archbishop Welby was announced as the 105th Archbishop of Canterbury on November 9, 2012 and was enthroned in Canterbury Cathedral on March 12, 2013. He is the spiritual leader of the Anglican Church, which consists of approximately 80 million members.One of his primary commitments as Archbishop is to visit each of the Archbishops of the 38 provinces of the Anglican Communion within his first two years as Archbishop of Canterbury. His visit to Archbishop Holder is in keeping with this promise.

During his visit to Barbados, Archbishop Welby will meet with Archbishop Holder to discuss matters relating to the Church in the Province of the West Indies. They will also discuss some of the challenges facing the Anglican Communion and the contribution of the Church in the Province of the West Indies in addressing these challenges.

While in Barbados, Archbishop Welby will also pay courtesy calls on the Governor General, the Prime Minister, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Minister of Ecclesiastical Affairs.

He will also celebrate and preach at a Eucharist at Christchurch Parish Church on Friday, August 9. This service begins at 7 p.m.
