Included in the package were tents, headlamps, raincoats and backpacks to help with the efficiency of the Cooperative’s guided hikes, birdwatching and turtle watching tours.

The equipment was handed over to the Cooperative by the administrative officer of the Trust La Verne Bentick-Phillips, who was accompanied by Lucine Edwards, Fisheries officer and members of the Project Steering Committee.

Roseman Adams and Katrina Collins were among other members of the Cooperative who were there to happily receive the equipment, which has already been put to use on their turtle watching visits.

This project is a UNDP-funded Global Environmental Facility (GEF) project, designed to create new livelihoods that do not threaten the environment. The establishment of the Cooperative was one of the achievements of the project. The project has also trained and certified nine persons from Union Island at the Matura Turtle Sanctuary in Trinidad in turtle watching.

Vincentians and visitors are welcome to visit Union Island and take part in the turtle or bird watching tours.
