Taiwan offers medical scholarships to Vincentians

From this year, Vincentians will be able to study medicine in Taiwan. The Embassy of the Republic of China on Taiwan has announced that,{{more}} in an effort to enhance medical services and cooperation, for the first time since the inception of their government’s scholarship programme, Vincentians will be provided with scholarships to pursue a four-year postgraduate medical degree in Taiwan.

However, awardees of the scholarship, upon completion of the study, are obliged to return to provide medical service in St Vincent and the Grenadines, the release said.

The medical degree programme will be offered in English by the I-Shou University, commencing in the 2013 academic year.

“Since it is a postgraduate programme, applicants must have a bachelor’s degree and take examinations in English, Biology and Chemistry at a venue designated by the Embassy on July 15.

Applicants will also be given an oral examination by the University via Skype or telephone from July 16 through July 18.”

The release from the Embassy said the scholarship programme covers airfare, dormitory, tuition fee, credit fees, book costs and a monthly allowance.

The Embassy welcomes Vincentian Youths seeking a medical degree in Taiwan to apply for it. Applicants must complete the online applications at both http://www.icdf.org.tw/TSP/welcome.aspx and http://enroll.isu.edu.tw//enroll//DP by July 1, 2013, print the completed forms, and submit them to the Embassy by July 4, 2013 together with proof of nationality, bachelor’s degree diploma, complete grade transcript, two recommendation letters and TaiwanICDF Medical Report, which is available at http://www.icdf.org.tw/ct.asp?xItem=12507&CtNode=30318&mp=2).
