VINLEC’s CEO elected as Chairman of CARILEC’s BOD

Chief Executive Officer of St. Vincent Electricity Services Limited Thornley Myers has been elected to serve as chairman of the Board of Directors for the Caribbean Electric Utility Service Corporation (CARILEC).{{more}}

Myers, who has 24 years in the electric utility industry, became chief executive officer at VINLEC in 2004. He held other positions in the company, prior to this appointment. Myers has been a member of the Board of Directors of CARILEC for the past nine years.

Myers was elected to the position at CARILEC’s Annual General Meeting, which took place during the CEO’s Conference and Corporate Communications Symposium, held in Kingston, Jamaica, from May 27 to 29. The meeting was held under the theme “Trust Leadership – Strengthening Our Commitment, Unleashing our Potential.” Among the areas of focus: Making Smarter Grids with Wireless Communication; Great Governance in Small Societies; Transformation in Difficult Times – The Leadership Challenge, and Strategic Communications Planning for Crisis Forecasting.

Myers says he is honoured to have been elected to this position and will endeavour to advance the organization, with a view to uplifting the utility sector and ultimately advancing the lives of the people of the region. Myers’ tenure as chairman of the regional umbrella body will be three years.

CARILEC is an association of electric utilities, suppliers, manufacturers and other stakeholders operating in the electricity industry in the Caribbean. CARILEC was established in 1989 with nine members. Currently, CARILEC comprises a total of 88 members – 33 Full Members that are electric utilities, 51 Associate Members that are companies involved in some aspect of servicing the electric utility business, and four Affiliate Members.
