Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves said in Parliament on Monday

that he was hoping to begin the next phase of the project in September, which will see personal computers being distributed to secondary school students.

“It will be another type of laptop and I am asking for them to send a model in advance for us,” Gonsalves said.

The Prime Minister had announced earlier that he was looking to other resources outside of Portugal to continue the project which was started back in 2010.

The recent change in the government in Portugal was one of the reasons given by Gonsalves for the interruption of the project.

He said then that he was seeking to make arrangements elsewhere to supply secondary school students with the computers, as promised.

Between 2010 and 2011, over 30,000 laptops were distributed to primary school students. (DD)
