Eustace can’t understand delay in providing chair

Leader of the Opposition Arnhim Eustace would like a quick resolution to the request made by parliamentary colleague Daniel Cummings for a special chair to be provided for him in the House of Assembly.{{more}}

Eustace, while addressing a sitting of parliament yesterday, said that he did not think that such an issue should be delayed.

“I want to say very frankly, Mr Speaker, if a chair is provided for any member of this House, on the basis that they were ill and there is evidence to indicate that this is so, I really don’t understand the delay in providing for that,” the Leader of the Opposition said, as he informed the Speaker that the absent Cummings had gone to Trinidad for treatment.

“It could happen to any one of us, Mr Speaker, and that matter, from my perspective, should not be an occasion for any delay in making the request,” he continued.

The matter should not even be discussed on the floor of the House, Eustace said, adding that he was seeking to have the issue resolved quickly.

During the May 17 session of the House, Cummings indicated that he was seeking to have a special chair provided for him to sit on in parliament because of an injury he sustained to his back when members of the Opposition were removed from parliament in March 2011.(DD)
