Another major milestone for SVGTCCU

The St Vincent and the Grenadines Teachers Co-operative Credit Union celebrates its 35th anniversary today, May 24, 2013. The Teachers Credit Union has its origin in the 1975 teachers’ strike that saw them banding themselves together to survive the financial hardship that followed the strike.{{more}} The Credit Union officially became registered on May 24, 1978.

President Sister Yvonne Francis, in addressing the first AGM, stated that “the start of a Credit Union is a big achievement for the St Vincent Union of Teachers. With the present economic situation, given the continual sky-rocketing of cost of living, the Credit Union can be the answer to many of our financial problems”. Indeed, the SVGTCCU has answered that call.

With the maxim “one for all and all for one”, the SVGTCCU has built on that foundation to become a leading non-bank financial institution, delivering the highest quality services to its members. From the humble beginning of 88 members with assets of $3,565, the SVGTCCU now boasts of over 10,000 members that include all Vincentians home, and abroad. The assets have also grown to $ 80.4 million.

Many of the members have made significant contributions over the 35 years and will be recognized accordingly. Today, we pay tribute to the seven Presidents who have championed the cause of the membership. They are as follows:
