A large crowd gathered at the New Haven Seventh Day Adventist Church on Sunday, April 28, to pay their last respects to the late Rosette Samuel, affectionately called “Diana”.{{more}}

The church, which is headed by Rosette’s sister Pastor Yvette Samuel, saw Vincentians from all walks of life turning out.

Rosette, originally from Vermont, St Vincent and the Grenadines, was 43 at the time of her death.

Delivering the opening remarks, Pastor Earl Baldwin called on all in the congregation “to pray for each other and love one another more, especially in these dangerous times that we are living in.”

During the emotional service, words of comfort from the Vincentian public were shared with Rosette’s relatives. Her 19-year-old son, Dondre Samuel, also spoke.

Rosette, who was a police officer at the 108 Precinct in Queens, was found at her home at E 56th street in Brooklyn, New York with a self-inflicted gunshot wound on April 15. Her one-year-old son Dylan and the child’s father, 33-year-old Dason Peters, were also killed by Samuel, who was off duty at the time of the shootings. Rosette’s son Dondre, who was also at home, escaped through a window.

Samuel’s interment took place on Monday, April 29, at Canarsie Cemetery.
