Constable Philbert Chambers was at the time responding to an incident at the Questelles beach, according to reports.

An eyewitness told SEARCHLIGHT that the officer was shot during an altercation with the individual he was attempting to arrest.

The source told SEARCHLIGHT that PC 14 Chambers’ gun was taken away and used to shoot him.

Head of the Police Public Relations Department Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Jonathan Nichols on Tuesday confirmed that Chambers had been shot, but did not give details as to what had transpired. Nichols, however, said the matter is under investigation.

PC 14 Chambers is presently on 14 days leave. (AA)
