James’ appointment as the new CID chief was made official on December 4.

At the close of the High Court’s Criminal Assizes on December 19, Director of Public Prosecutions, Colin Williams congratulated James, who, before taking up his new post, was head of the Major Crimes Unit.

James, who has been a cop for 31 years, including 27 years at the CID, only smiled when asked about his new appointment.

In August this year, James was promoted from the rank of inspector to ASP.

James takes over from Assistant Superintendent Elton Jackson.

The DPP described James as a “most competent and capable crime fighter” and said the development is an overall progressive step.

The DPP further added that as an investigator, James is without parallel in this jurisdiction and was there at the formation of the MCU over a decade ago.

Justice Frederick Bruce-Lyle said James is now where he ought to have been years ago. (KW)
