Karib Cable to invest over $65 million in infrastructure operations in Barbados

With its entry into the Barbados telecommunications market, the management of Karib Cable say they believe they have reached their goal,{{more}} but are not quite ready to rest on their laurels.

At a corporate mixer hosted by Karib Cable on Thursday at the Grenadine House in Kingstown, Ed Riley, general manager of Karib Cable said their goal to build the best, most advanced network in the Caribbean has been achieved, with its expansion into yet another territory.

“We recently acquired all the licenses necessary to deliver fully converged telecommunications services throughout the island of Barbados,” Riley said.

“There we will deliver ‘quad play’ services, including cable television, Internet, fixed-line telephone, and security services. We will invest over $65 million in the infrastructure operations in Barbados, which is our largest to date, and will employ over 200 people on the island.”

This brings to four, Riley said, the number of countries the company now operates in.

Apart from St Vincent and the Grenadines, their products and services also extend to St Lucia and Antigua and Barbuda, employing over 400 people.

Riley boasted that his company, which came into existence in 1996, has strived to be the best and most dynamic homegrown telecommunications provider.

He further said it is the only of its kind in the region that designs, builds, and operates its own network, which, he said, provides more robust services and grows and adjusts to customers’ needs and requirements.

“Karib Cable has a very important role to play in the facilitation and development of the telecommunications infrastructure in St Vincent and the Grenadines, and more so for your business. Choosing a telecommunications provider is a decision that cannot be too carefully considered, as you make the technology decisions that would impact the future of this great nation. Meanwhile, Elroy Edwards, the company’s marketing manager, speaking to current and potential corporate customers, said Karib Cable’s one-of-a-kind product portfolio, which comprises Internet, fixed-line, and cable television, makes them the leading telecommunications provider in the country.

“Over the last 15 years, we at Karib Cable have made a name for ourselves … We have become well known for our triple play service, and state-of-the-art fibre network … We are the only triple play service provider in St Vincent and the Grenadines, and our state-of-the-art network and Karib Cable is synonymous with fibre; when you say fibre you say Karib Cable, when you say Karib Cable you say fibre.

“As I speak about advance network I want to remind you that we are not living in the 19th or 20th century, but we are living in the 21st century and we are living in a technological age. We are living in a time where customers are looking for a network that can deliver the technology that they want, and they are opting for Karib Cable’s technology.”

Edwards challenged the potential clients to compare the prices and services offered by other service providers and see that his company is the provider of choice, when it came to their need to economize and cut costs.

“Unlike the competitors, whose technology is delivered over an aging copper network built before most of us were even born, our network, was built using the most advanced technology today.

“Optical fibre is the future and the future is now.

“Look at your LIME bill — I am just being aggressive tonight — I remember speaking to a gentleman — I don’t want to call the gentleman’s name — but it is a very prominent business, and for some reason I did not like what he did, but he called the general manager for LIME and he said to him that ‘Karib Cable is eating away at your pie.’

“We are eating away at their pie because we are offering cost effective solutions.

“So I’m giving you the charge and look at your spending, and then engage us. As a matter of fact we will actually engage you,” Edwards said.

Presentations were also made by other corporate and technical staff members at the event, and prizes were given to persons correctly answering trivia questions, with a door prize being won by Donnie Collins of WE FM.
