Gov’t receives funds for civic development projects

Taiwan’s ambassador to SVG Weber Shih on Thursday presented a cheque for EC$2,388,300 (US$888,438.36) to Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves for the funding of civic development projects.{{more}}

The money is part of Taiwan’s annual sponsorship for the 2012 Civic Development Programme and is to be used in the implementation of four projects, the Taiwan embassy said in a release.

The projects are the YES Programme, which will receive EC$1,200,000, upgrade of the computer laboratory at the Girls’ High School — EC$50,000, Cumberland Sports Facility — EC$217,500, and the upgrade of Starlift Steel Orchestra Pan Yard — EC$20,800.

The prime minister expressed his thanks for Taiwan’s continued support for the SVG Civic Development Programme.

He pointed out that various well-implemented projects under the cooperative programme have benefited Vincentian youths and the public over the years.

Ambassador Shih expressed appreciation for the importance Gonsalves has attached to the cooperation between the two countries and praised the effectiveness of implementation, the release further said.

In the years to come, the Embassy wishes to keep working with Vincentian Government in promoting cooperative projects conducive to sustainable development and the good of the general public, the release stated.
