The event, which is in its 14th year, is held amongst grade 5 primary school students.

Wednesday, October 24, marked the official start of the competition with the handing over of the sponsorship cheque at the Fisheries Department conference room.

Coreas Hazells Inc, through the brand Seven Seas, in collaboration with the Rotaract Club of Kingstown are partnering to host the competition.

The preliminaries started on October 22 and there will be eight rounds from which eight finalists will be chosen to compete for the coveted title.

The finals will be held November 3, at Frenches House.

Brand manager for Seven Seas, John-Paul Antoine, said he hopes the event challenges the students to continuously seek excellence in all they do and also build their confidence amongst their peers.

This, he said, will be an asset to their future development.

“We hope this event will help them develop their knowledge and appreciation for education,” he added.

Meanwhile, community service director for the Rotaract Club Kingstown Sylicia Lynch has appealed to the public “to come out and show support to the participants at the finals as they put their best foot forward and help to improve their literacy with the help of the Rotaract Club”.
