These include the Female Surgical Ward, the Maternity B Ward, the Operating Theatre and the kitchen, Burgin said at the Lewis Punnett Home, where a local bank renovated the laundry.

New doctors’ quarters are also to be built in Canouan, Mesopotamia, Sandy Bay and Chateaubelair, Burgin said.

Further, new staff quarters are to be constructed in Union Island.

Two new polyclinics are to be built: one in Mesopotamia, as part of the Levi Latham Health centre, and the other in Buccament.

Renovation will also be done to the Mental Health Centre the minister said.

“In essence, the 10 EDF project is expected to expand primary and secondary health care services to the entire country, promote equity in the distribution of health services and reduce the high cost in accessing health services and care in Kingstown,” he said.

Burgin said two contracts have been awarded for the design and supervision of these facilities and construction should begin by the first quarter of 2013. (AA)
