Community groups meet tomorrow to begin preparations for Nine Mornings Festival


Representatives of various community groups, organizations and individuals from around the country, involved in staging Christmas and Nine Mornings activities, will gather tomorrow, Saturday, from 9.30 a.m. at the Peace Memorial Hall,{{more}} as the Ministry of Culture and the SVG Nine Mornings Committee begin to make preparations for the 2012 SVG Christmas/Nine Mornings Festival.

Saturday’s meeting will look at improved programming, innovations to the festival, finance and sponsorship, the various community competitions, promotion and organizational strengthening, a release from the National Nine Mornings Committee said.

Remarks will come from Cecil McKie, Minister of Culture; a representative from VINLEC, who will speak on electrical safety, usage and lighting; a police officer will address issues of safety and security and there will also be a presentation from Corea’s company on lights. The Nine Mornings meeting this Saturday will also hear progress reports from the communities that have begun preparations and any challenges they are encountering.

The SVG Christmas/Nine Mornings festival, which takes place throughout the month of December, will be officially launched on Sunday, December 2, with a street parade, Christmas concert and lighting of Heritage Square and climaxing with the Nine Mornings festivities from December 15 to 24.

The village of New Grounds is the defending National Lighting champion; Stubbs won the Best Nine Mornings Community and Dorsetshire Hill the Best Christmas Community awards.

The Nine Mornings festival is being celebrated under the theme: “Celebrating a unique Vincentian tradition”.
