This year, Professor Hollis Liverpool, well known in the calypso arena by the sobriquet ‘the Mighty Chalkdust’ will deliver the lecture on the topic: “Our Cultural Heritage: Its relevance to Education in the Caribbean”, a release from the Open Campus said.

The renowned Trinidadian and Caribbean calypsonian has been a leading defender of social commentary in calypso in Trinidad and Tobago since the 1970s. In February 2004, he won the Calypso Monarch title for the sixth time.

As a public school teacher and, more recently, a university professor, Chalkdust has also written extensively on calypso history, such as ‘From the horse’s mouth’ and ‘Rituals of power and rebellion: The Carnival Tradition in Trinidad and Tobago’.

UWI alumni and the public are invited to attend. Patrons are asked to be seated by 6:45 p.m., the release further stated.
