PM knocks mobile service providers

Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves has taken a swipe at local mobile service operators Digicel and LIME.{{more}}

During his address at the launch of the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System project at the Coastguard Base on Tuesday, he said he had been having problems with dropped calls when using his mobile phone.

“I am finding it problematic … I am not sure if it is my imagination, but I am sure it is not,” Gonsalves said.

He explained that in the past, the problem occurred when he was making his way to his constituency, North Central Windward.

“I could use my cell phone without any problems; I knew what the two or three problem areas [were], and when I was coming to them, I will tell the person I am speaking to, ‘Well I coming up

to a problem area and the call may drop so I will call you back’,” Gonsalves said.

But now, it seems as if the entire country is full of problem areas, the prime minister contended.

“I don’t know if other persons have that experience, but I have found that to be so.”

He did not specify which of the two mobile providers was proving to be more problematic, saying that he was both a LIME and Digicel customer. (DD)
