Chief Executive Officer Thornley Myers, in delivering remarks, stressed the importance of being disciplined and well rounded in everyday life. He urged the recipients of the scholarships to be dedicated, noting that they are in the early stages in this journey of life. Myers told the parents to be watchful and to provide guidance and support to their children continuously.

General Secretary of the National Workers Movement and member of the Education Awards Committee Noel Jackson told the awardees to make the best use of the opportunities provided through this programme. He stated that education is important in this highly competitive environment.

This year, five students have been granted scholarships at the secondary level, two at the tertiary level and another three were given bursaries. This year’s awardees are Christalle Wilson, Saeed Bowman, Rayana Patrick, Azik Douglas, Briana Jeffrey, Angelique Douglas, Shani Foster, Rodiva Ragguett, Enrico Castello and Kaian Cuffy.

VINLEC’s Education Awards programme commenced in 1984 and is geared towards providing employees’ children the opportunity and incentive to continue their education, so they can fully participate in civil society and national development.

So far, over 170 persons have benefited from this programme. Presently, there are 29 students in the programme.
