New Law Year 2012/2013 commences next Tuesday


The Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court will commence the New Law Year 2012/2013 next Tuesday, with its usual ceremonial opening in the form of simultaneous special sittings in all the nine member states and territories of the OECS.{{more}}

The proceedings in St Vincent will commence with a church service at the Cathedral of the Assumption, starting at 8:00 a.m., followed by a procession to the High Court of Justice, where the formal Court Sitting will be held.

A release from Tamara Gibson-Marks, Registrar of the High Court, said the Chief Justice’s Opening Address, which is considered the main event, will be delivered by Her Ladyship Janice M. Pereira, Acting Chief justice, at 10:00 a.m., from the High Court of Justice in St Vincent and the Grenadines, where the Court of Appeal will be holding its first scheduled sitting for the New Law Year.

The address will be carried live via simulcast to the other member states and territories of the OECS and will also be broadcast throughout the region via the local media.

In St Vincent and the Grenadines, the address will be broadcast live on TV Channel 75, as well as through the OECS Newslink via Radio St Lucia and NBC Radio 705.

The release said the public is encouraged to participate in the ceremonial opening of the New Law Year 2012/2013, by attending or listening to the local radio and television stations.
