This is the second year that the group has implemented such a project in St Vincent and the Grenadines.

Sunday’s handing over ceremony was done at the Owia Government School, in partnership with the Owia Sports and Cultural Organization (OSCO), a community group which promotes sports, culture and other developmental activities in the community of Owia. Students who benefitted from this project hailed from Fancy, Point, Owia, Magum, Overland and Sandy Bay. The project’s focus is to help children at the elementary or primary school level be equipped for their return to the classroom.

During the brief ceremony, local liaison officer Anesia Baptiste explained the origin of the project and its purpose, while thanking members of the OSCO for their volunteerism and partnership, on behalf of the UHCSVG. Baptiste, who read a letter from Kaiya Canty – the 14-year-old who inspired the project, also named 15 children who would be tagged to overseas sponsors for additional sponsorship related to the children’s needs during the school year. Members of OSCO were also engaged in handing over bags (see photos). Baptiste also indicated that this year, a total of 300 children from different areas locally would benefit from the project.

Meanwhile, UHCSVG continues to distribute school supplies to other students in areas such as Dorsetshire Hill and Queen’s Drive. Acting on their behalf, Anesia Baptiste will also distribute in Layou, Pole Yard, Belair and Robinson Hill, Arnos Vale.
