Government receives material to rebuild after Hurricane Tomas – Gonsalves

A “substantial amount’ of building material, which arrived in this country recently, will be used for diasaster relief, as the country continues to rebuild after Hurricane Tomas in 2010 and the April floods of 2011,{{more}} Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves said Wednesday.

Gonsalves did not disclose the quantity of the material or the monetary value when he spoke on radio.

“We have just recently received a substantial amount of building materials to continue some repairs on some homes, some which were damaged — some of the residue from Tomas, April floods last year, one or two others,” he said.

“We probably might begin by doing 10 in each constituency. That will be about 150 nationwide, which would be a significant number,” Gonsalves said.

Hurricane Tomas, which struck on October 30, 2010, left EC$65 million (US$24 million) in damage to the agricultural sector, in addition to damage to 1,200 homes, utilities and other infrastructure.
