Until now, Indian Diaspora Conferences have been held mainly in Trinidad. Dr Arnold Thomas, recently appointed Global Organisation of People of Indian Origin (GOPIO) International Coordinator, Caribbean, announced that this year, the St Vincent Chapter of GOPIO will host and organise the Indian Diaspora Conference which will take place over the period 1-3 June under the theme “The Indian Diaspora in St. Vincent and the Grenadines and the wider Caribbean”.

It will coincide with Indian Arrival Day celebrations on June 1. The venue for the Conference will be given in a subsequent announcement.

The Conference aims to bring together international academics, scholars, students, teachers, organisations, and people with an interest in the Indian Diaspora in the Caribbean and will cover a wide range of social, economic, religious and other topics.

The call for papers was made recently, with April 1 as the deadline for submission of abstracts and May 1 for submission of full papers.

Already the international response from interested presenters has been tremendous. It is expected that the Conference will attract many participants in addition to those who will be presenting papers. For more information on the Indian Diaspora Conference please contact
