St. Vincent and the  Grenadines to host RSS Council of Ministers Meeting

At least three prime ministers are expected here this week for the Council meeting of the Regional Security System (RSS), set for March 23 at the Grenadine House.{{more}}

Those expected are Prime Minister Freundel Stuart of Barbados, Prime Minister Tillman Thomas from Grenada, and Prime Minister Dr. Denzil Douglas of St.Kitts and Nevis.

They will join host Prime Minister and current chairman of the RSS, Dr. Ralph Gonsalves, to look at a number of critical matters related to security in the region.

A number of ministers responsible for security, police commissioners and senior members of the RSS will attend the meeting this Friday.

Among matters on the agenda for discussion are the RSS budget for the period 2012 to 2013, the RSS training programme, and the way forward for the RSS Air Wing.

There will also be a report from the co-ordinator of the RSS, Grantley Watson, which will detail important aspects of the work of that body, and issues to be considered for the future.

The Regional Security System comprises military and police units from seven regional states, and has as its mandate the maximising of regional security in preserving the social and economic development of the people of the region.
