One of the Programme Goals of SOROPTIMIST INTERNATIONAL (SI) is to “Eliminate violence against women and girls in all forms and to ensure women’s participation in conflict resolution.” Soroptimist International has representation at all four UN headquarters and has a voice at the United Nations in matters affecting women internationally. The work of SI is focused on benefiting women and girls, locally and globally, through their goal of: “ EDUCATE TO LEAD”. This is perceived as the path to improve the lives of women and the way out of poverty and abusive situations. Educate, Empower and Enable women and girls to be recognized for what they are. Soroptimists are committed to a world where women and girls together achieve their individual and collective potential, realise aspirations and have an equal voice in creating strong and peaceful communities worldwide.. The last SI Quadrennial International project “Sierra” raised over 1 million pounds sterling to provide education and learning facilities to women and girls in Sierra Leone.

SISVG joins with all Women, organizations, and other groups in vehemently denouncing the practice of “Human Trafficking’ and other forms of violence against women, not only in St. Vincent & the Grenadines but globally. Here in SVG we continue to give girls the opportunity to be educated at secondary and tertiary levels, so that they, too, can help in the process of transforming lives and inspiring action by their fine example.

Let us all continue the struggle for Women’s Rights in our country. Celebrate International Women’s day by looking at women’s successes but also not forgetting the work still to be done in assisting those women and girls in need.
