According to a release from the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Postal Corporation, effective March 1, 2012, there has been an increase in postal rates.

The release said an Integrated Postal Development Study was conducted and reviewed, among other things, the postage tariffs as they relate to the production and delivery of universal postal products and services.

The study also revealed that the cost of postage was significantly higher than what is being charged by the Postal Corporation and a significant contributor to the losses the corporation was experiencing.

The study further stated that SVG Post has a mandate to provide universal postal service to all citizens, but the Corporation’s viability must also be hinged on the alignment of its Postage rates to the cost of operations.

As a result of these recommendations, Cabinet has granted approval for inland postage, from March 1, to be $1.00; Caribbean – $1.70; North, Central and South America – $2.20; United Kingdom and Europe – $2.65; Asia – $3.40.

The revised rates for parcels and other supplementary services can be obtained at all Post Offices. The rates for all other services remain unchanged.
