Roberts is the winner of a digital camera, through a promotion initiated by Davis on the social networking site Facebook.

Roberts happily collected her prize at SEARCHLIGHT house from Celia Lewis, Davis’ representative, in the presence of Keizer. The handover took place on Tuesday, February 14, 2012.

Relating the story behind Roberts’ win, Keizer stated that a friend of hers, Calvert Jones, shared a post made by Davis on Facebook. The post read: “Wesley Davis of Island Computers and Electronics is giving away a free camera to anyone who can give the best reason why they need this gift.”

Jones shared the post on February 3, 2012, and asked persons to post comments giving reasons why they should win the camera.

“Just that day (February 3, 2012) I had interviewed the young lady for the possibility of being a freelance reporter for SEARCHLIGHT, but I told her she would need her own camera. When I saw the post, I thought it would be really nice if she could win this camera, because it would be something that she could use,” Keizer said.

Keizer then posted on Facebook: “I would give it to an unemployed young lady who has the opportunity to make a living as a freelance reporter, but needs to own a camera.”

Stating that she had forgotten all about the promotion, Keizer said she was pleasantly surprised when on February 13 she received a telephone call from Lewis informing her that she (Keizer) had won the promotion.

“I am really happy for Sulani, and I hope she will put the camera to work,” Keizer said.

Other persons entering the competition expressed their intention to use the camera to capture life’s treasured moments as well as the lives and cultures of others, among other things.

Roberts, accepting her gift on Tuesday, expressed her delight upon winning the camera, adding that she had never won anything before.
