The week long activity included spelling competition, reading to the elderly in the community, reading/comprehension competition (among grades 5 and 6) and a showcase of pupils’ writing.

The week’s activities culminated on Friday, February 10, where the pupils and teachers marched through the street from the school to the pan yard and back. They were also joined by the pupils of Coral Reef Pre-school and the Pelican Primary School. The pupils displayed their beautifully decorated hats portraying various messages pertaining to reading.

Following the march the pupils of the different classes made several presentations involving reading activities in the form of drama, poetry, speeches, stories etc.

Headteacher Jacqueline Charles and Literacy Coordinator at the school Susan King both addressed the gathering and highlighted the importance of reading and encouraged the students to read at all times.

At the end of the activities, students who participated in the different competitions (spelling, Reading/comprehension) were awarded with certificates and other tokens of appreciation.
