The Commission asserts that whether persons knew the victim, identified as Veronica Johnson, it is certainly a time for individuals to pray for the family, friends and community where Johnson resided.

The National Commission on Crime Prevention offers its condolences to the family, friends and community of Lowmans Leeward and condemns “this act of killing an innocent, senior citizen”.

The NCCP is indeed concerned and saddened by the incident. The NCCP will continue to partner with the National Council of Women and other non-governmental organizations to educate citizens on non-violent ways and means of resolving conflict. The Department is satisfied that “investigations are continuing by the relevant authorities into this incident”.

The NCCP is also concerned about the two incidents of stabbing last weekend to two young women, Kenisha Belgraves and Claudine Simmons. The Department is reminding persons that personal safety and security would also “start from them”, and is advising persons to avoid “opening themselves to opportunities of hazards.”
