New Development plan for SVG Education Sector


Education stakeholders are invited to participate in a series of consultations on the Education Sector which are taking place here this week.{{more}}

The consultations will focus on the current strengths, weaknesses, challenges and priorities of the education sector here in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and form part of the development of a New Education Sector Development plan.

The Government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines through the Ministry of Education has engaged a consulting team lead by Professor Errol Miler from Jamaica to work on the Development plan. This process began in October, 2011.

As a result, there will be a number of consultations throughout St. Vincent and the Grenadines to canvass the views, opinions and qualitative assessments of stakeholders groups in Education such as students, teachers, parents, private and public sector groups and the teachers union.

Consultations were held yesterday in Barrouallie and Georgetown and will be held today at the Union Island Learning Resource Centre and the Bequia Anglican School from 6:30pm to 9:00pm.

Headteachers of primary schools will meet with the consultants on Thursday from 9:00am to Noon at the Red Cross Headquarters in Kingstown, while the principals of secondary schools will meet at the Fisheries Conference Centre from 9:00am to Noon, also on Thursday.

The team will hold consultation with interested teachers and students on Thursday from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at the Fisheries Conference Centre, while the Technical Working Group with meet at NEMO headquarters from 9:00am to 3:00pm on Friday.

The Consultants will also meet with Government and the Opposition.
