It’s not a protest march, it’s a solidarity march, rally – Clarke

President of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Teachers’ Union (SVGTU) Ronald Clarke has reiterated the point that the solidarity march and rally scheduled to be held today,{{more}} Friday, November 18, is nothing more than what the name suggests.

“As far as I’m concerned, it’s a solidarity march and rally,” Clarke said on Tuesday, November 15, during a radio programme on WEFM.

“While we would like and would want to have persons supporting us in our march and rally, it is not a protest march.”

“It is not a protest rally, it is just in solidarity in remembrance for those persons who fought and struggled and who were imprisoned and who were tear gassed so that teachers can have better working conditions,” he continued.

Clarke was responding to claims that the Opposition New Democratic Party (NDP) was mobilizing persons to participate in the march.

The SVGTU President said that he was called on the issue Tuesday, but maintained his position.

Meanwhile, Leader of the Opposition Arnhim Eustace during a press conference on Wednesday, November 16, said that he had heard the SVGTU’s President inviting members of the general public and that he was encouraging persons to participate. (DD)
