All set for SVGTU Solidarity Week 2011

All members of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Teachers’ Union (SVGTU), whether past, present or prospective, are encouraged to take part the Union’s week of activities{{more}} to commemorate Solidarity Week 2011.

This encouragement came from Public Relations Officer of the Union, Vibert Lampkin, during a press conference at the SVGTU headquarters on Monday, November 7, 2011.

Lampkin stated that the week, which runs from November 13 to 18, is a very significant week for the SVGTU. The theme for the week is “Rekindling the spirit of our Forerunners.”

According to Lampkin, the week’s activities will begin with a Church service at the Streams of Power Church at Sion Hill on Sunday, November 13, at 7:30am. A panel discussion will follow the day after, at 9:00 am, at the Frenches House, with panelists Cecil “Blazer” Williams, Michael “Mike” Browne and Dr. Adrian Fraser.

On Tuesday, November 16, there will be a Feedback radio programme on WE FM, followed by a General meeting on Wednesday, November 16, which all members are urged to attend. The meeting will take place at the Kingstown Anglican Schol at 3:30 pm. On Thursday, November 17, the SVGTU will facilitate an EFAIDS workshop at the Colonaire resource Centre at 9:00 am.

The week will come to an end with the Solidarity March and Rally beginning at 3:00 p.m. The March, according to Lampkin, will take the similar route taken in the 1975 strike action.

The week will also include daily quizzes on the National Broadcasting Corporation Radio on the St. Vincent Teachers Union. Persons can visit the union’s website at or email [email protected] for more information.
