SVG Bureau of Standards hosts Food Safety Forum

The St. Vincent and the Grenadines Bureau of Standards (SVGBS) in collaboration with the Caribbean Industrial Research Institute (CARIRI) will be implementing a sub-regional project on “Improving Food Safety Practices among Food Vendors, Caterers and Processors in St Vincent and the Grenadines.{{more}}

This project involves training of technical officers at the SVGBS and other support agencies on the principles of Good Manufacturing Practice – GMP, (Food Preparation and Hygiene). It will also involve conducting pilot studies with several food establishments relative to the application of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and the development of a training manual and video on food hygiene and safety.

Accordingly, a one day Food Safety Forum for Stakeholders in the food industry will be held on Monday, November 7, 2011. The stakeholder Forum is aimed at sensitizing and reviewing the roles of stakeholders in the food safety sector as well to solicit feedback towards an effective project implementation.

Additionally, as part of the food safety project, the SVGBS will be executing a pilot program relating to inspection and coaching of 12 food establishments (restaurants, Vendors, Caterers) in the implementation of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). Specifically, this coaching will be conducted with a view to gauging the food establishments state of compliance/conformity with the Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) as well as to provide technical guiandance on meeting compliance issues.

These activities will take place at the Conference Room of the Fisheries Division, Kingstown, and will start at 9.00 am.
