VINLEC holds Retiree Appreciation Day

Retirees who served at the lone electricity provider in this country – St. Vincent Electricity Services Limited (VINLEC) – have been told to enjoy retirement and consider this period the best in their lives.{{more}} This encouragement came from Chief Health Educator in the Ministry of Health, Patsy Wyllie. Addressing the gathering at VINLEC’s Retiree Appreciation Day last Friday, October 21, Wyllie said that persons can still lead productive lives after retirement and encouraged the retirees to share their wisdom and skills with others to help build a better society. She noted that it is important to have wellness of the body, mind and spirit to enjoy happy and healthy lives.

Meanwhile, Chief Executive Officer Thornley Myers welcomed the retirees to the event and noted that the Company was honoured to be able to bring together those who have contributed to the Company at this special occasion. He said that this event will remain on the Company’s Calendar of events as a show of appreciation for the retirees.

This is the third year the Company is hosting the event. VINLEC’s Retiree Appreciation Day is held as a show of gratitude for the retirees who have contributed to the development of the Company and the country by extension. The Company’s Retiree programme also includes presentation of gift baskets for birthday celebrations, visits from employees and invitations to all of the Company’s social and family activities. In 2010, the group was taken on a tour of the Windward side of the island, where they visited local recreational sites.

The group of sixty retirees and family members journeyed to the Leeward side of the island, making stops at the Cumberland Power Plant, Richmond Headworks and Dark View Falls. The retirees expressed satisfaction with the day’s activity and were happy to offer suggestions to the organizing committee for a venue for next year’s event
