Toastmasters Clubs to celebrate on Saturday


Five Toastmasters clubs within St. Vincent and the Grenadines will come together to celebrate the annual Toastmasters Day, this Saturday October 22, 2011.{{more}}

The clubs, which are a part of the Toastmasters International Organization will celebrate Toastmasters day with a Social, at the Conference room and rooftop Upstairs the Music Centre.

The celebration, which included a week of activities, began on Monday October 16, 2011 and was held under the theme “Five in Five Years-Toastmasters Sharing the Power of Communication.

The theme is meant to reflect the achievements of the established Toastmasters in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, as they have formed five groups in five years. It also reflects the organizations aim to develop persons through teaching communication, Public Speaking and leadership skills.

According to Francesca Burnham-Onu Area Governor of Toastmasters, the first club, The Achievers Toastmasters club, was formed in May 2006. There is also the Imperial Champions Toastmasters club, the Creative Thinkers Toastmasters club, and corporate clubs the Dynamic Leaders Toastmasters club with members of the Bank of St. Vincent and the Grenadines and the Mustique Professionals Toastmasters club.

According to Ryan Hazell, Immediate past president of the Imperial Champions Toastmasters Club, Toastmasters international has seen significant growth as thousands have taken advantage of the organization’s focus on developing communication skills. Hazell said that there are over 250,000 members in 12,000 clubs in 106 countries around the world.

The week of activities included a church service at the Faith Temple Church, radio interviews, community outreach, and a joint Toastmasters Club meeting.(OS)
