Luta to represent SVG at WOMEX


St Vincent and the Grenadines will be represented at the World Music Expo 2011 by Rondy ‘Luta’ McIntosh one of SVG’s top artiste and Herric Horne, CEO of Island Netwok Inc. an artiste management agency.{{more}}

The two representatives were choosen by Caribbean Export Development Agency (Caribbean Export), the only regional trade promotions and export development agency in the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) group.

The Agency was established in 1996 by an Inter-Government Agreement as the Regional Trade Promotion and Export Development Agency of the fifteen (15) CARIFORUM States.

Caribbean Export and the Regional Council of Martinique will be carrying of Caribbean Music Industry Representatives to the World Music Expo (WOMEX) which will be held in Copenhagen, Denmark from October 26 to 30, 2011. The main objective of this mission is to expose professionals and artists from the Caribbean Music Industry to European and International markets as well as to promote greater cooperation between music industry representatives from Martinique and CARIFORUM States.

WOMEX 11 will be held at Forum Copenhagen and DR Concert Hall in Copenhagen, Denmark from 26 October -30 October 2011. The event is produced by Piranha WOMEX AG in Berlin in cooperation with World Music Fair Copenhagen.

The World Music EXpo (WOMEX) is the world’s premier networking point exclusively dedicated to world, roots, folk, ethnic, traditional, local and diaspora music of all kinds. Sixteen WOMEX editions in Berlin (1994), Brussels (1995), Marseilles (1997),Stockholm (1998), Berlin (1999, 2000), Rotterdam (2001), Essen (2002), Sevilla (2003, 2006, 2007, 2008), Essen (2004), Newcastle (2005) and Copenhagen (2009, 2010) have affirmed the value and potential of networking across borders, be these musical, political, cultural or commercial. In 2010 WOMEX was attended by2440 delegates and 1360 companies from 94 countries. Furthermore, 59 Showcase acts with over 300 artists from 38 countries performed on 6 stages.

WOMEX 2011 in Copenhagen is supported by RoskildeFestival, Copenhagen Jazzfestival, Wonderful Copenhagen, Global Copenhagen, Danish Center for Culture and Development, Welcome Meeting Management and World Music Copenhagen.

WOMEX is “The most important international professional market of world music of every kind. This international fair brings together professionals from the worlds of folk, roots, ethnic and traditional music and also includes concerts, conferences and documentary films. It contributes to networking as an effective means of promoting music and culture of all kinds across frontiers.”

This is the first time that St Vincent and the Grenadines will be represented at the event.
