Creating radio magazines for public education


Various stakeholder groups in St. Vincent and the Grenadines recently gained practical knowledge on the power of effective communication, using the medium of radio.{{more}} Through the assistance of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (UN FAO) and the Caribbean Natural Resources Institute (CANARI), eleven representatives of local civil society organisations and state agencies that work in areas related to forest management received this training over the period October 4 to 7, 2011.

The training was facilitated by the international organisation PCI Media Impact, and will contribute to the development of an upcoming radio magazine programme, soon to be aired on various radio frequencies in the island.

It forms part of an overall public education and outreach effort funded by the FAO to promote community involvement in forest management to benefit local livelihoods.

Participants in the programme also gained hands-on experience in this approach that can be later used in their individual organisations for their public education activities.
