Anglicans from the Diocese of the Windward Islands, and other dioceses of the Church in the Province of the West Indies and Anglican Communion gathered on Thursday, September 29 at 5:00 pm – being the feast day of St. Michael and All Angels, to witness the Ordination of Deacon Kari Xavier Marcelle to the Holy Order of Priesthood at the St. Georges Cathedral in Kingstown.

Father Marcelle is a graduate of the St. Frances Academy, Baltimore, Maryland, and holds a Master of Divinity Degree from Wycliffe College, Toronto. He also holds a Diploma in Secondary Education, with Certification in Religion, and is currently a Post Graduate student at Nashotah House Theological Seminary, Wisconsin, reading for a Masters of sacred Theology Degree.

He has been serving in the Parish of St. Paul’s Calliaqua, with St. John’s Belair, since December 16th, 2010.

Father Marcelle is now the youngest priest within the Diocese of the Windward Islands and will continue to serve in the current parish. Father Marcelle’s Ordination is historic, for it is the First Ordination to Priesthood administered by Bishop of the Windward Islands, His Lordship the Right Reverend Bishop C. Leopold Friday. The newly ordained priest will celebrate his First Mass today, Friday, September 30, at the St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Calliaqua, at 6:00 pm.

Kari Marcelle is the son of Agatha K. Marcelle, former Bahamian Member of Parliament and Permanent Secretary, and is inspired and encouraged by the words adapted from an ancient hymn entitled, Thou art coming O my Saviour- “time appointed may be long, but the vision must be sure, certainly will make us strong, joyful patience shall endure”.
