Up to Wednesday afternoon, approximately 30 truck loads of white goods had been collected from homeowners around mainland St. Vincent, in a White Goods Removal Service, initiated by the Solid Waste Management Unit (SWMU) of the Central Water and Sewerage Authority (CWSA).{{more}}

Public Relations and Marketing Manager at the CWSA Joan Ryan told SEARCHLIGHT on Wednesday that the programme, which began on Monday, September 12, and will conclude tomorrow, Saturday, September 17, has been going very well.

“People have been bringing out. Over the last two days, we have had about 30 truck loads of garbage. These are 20, 10 and 6 tonne trucks,” Ryan said.

All this week, on consumers’ regular garbage day, vehicles contracted by the SWMU have been collecting unwanted appliances such as refrigerators, washing machines, televisions, other household furnishings and barrels, and transporting them to the Brighton land fill.

Ryan disclosed that once the white goods get to Brighton, a contractor will go through the material, salvaging metal which can be exported.

The next time the free White Goods Removal Service will be offered to consumers will be in December.
