The Prime Minister, speaking last Sunday, August 7, at the ground-breaking ceremony to mark the commencement of construction of the passenger terminal at the site of the Argyle international airport, said that the rumour was started to cause distraction from the latest phase in the project.

“Because this project was coming on – this launch today, you heard all the lies.”

“You heard them saying that public servants going get 10 per cent salary cut. This is a dastardly lie and I want the people who go on radio and talk these things, must go on their knees.”

Dr. Gonsalves indicated that the rumour, which was circulated through social media and on electronic broadcasts, based on writings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), has created unease among Vincentians.

He urged supporters to continue to rally around his administration.

“I tell you as Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, it is a total lie. Just go about your work and do your work and stand behind your government and let us go forward in the development of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.”

“This is the government which has increased the salary for the working people, public servant, teachers and nurses and policemen and women like never before in this country.”
