Blondie Bird retains Band of the Year title

Guinness/ Y. De. Lima / Hitz FM 103.7 Blondie Bird and Friends have experienced victory yet again, retaining their Band of the Year title for Mardi Gras 2011.{{more}}

This year, the Mas band rose to the top with its production “Nature’s Fury” with sections that vividly displayed natural disasters such as Tsunami, Tornadoes, Wildfire, and Hurricane Tomas among others, scoring a total of 552 points. ‘Bird’ also took the second place for his use of colour and also secured top places in the Individual of the Band Category placing first with “Avalanche” and the Section of the Band Category placing second with “Hurricane Tomas.”

SVG Players International placed second in the Band of the Year competition scoring 533 points with their production “At the Movies”. The ‘Avatar’ section from the band secured the top spot for the Section of the Bands category. SVG Players International also won in the ‘Best use of colour’ category. The band’s sections included the red, black and white fury of Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man’s Chest, the soft pink and purple of the Disney classic Aladdin and the blue of the Navi people in Avatar. The band also placed third in the Individual of the Band category with its costume Snow White and Seven Dwarfs portrayed by Jenilee Glasgow.

Showcasing the many colours associated with various emotions, Aunt Jobe Market / Metrocint General Insurance Co. Ltd High Voltage Mas Band secured the third spot in the Band of the Year category with their production “Emotions in Colour” scoring 514 points. The Mas band also placed second in the Individual of the year category, with “Love’ portrayed by Petra Pompey.

Rounding out the top six in Band of the Year category were fourth place Mirage Production with their production “White Darkness”, fifth place KFC / Heineken Dragons in Association with C.K Greaves, Cash Money Investment and the News newspaper with “Journey through the silk road” and sixth place Digicel/ Hitz FM 103.7 Nelson Bloc Mas Camp with “From our Caribbean Garden.”

Mirage production and KFC / Heineken Dragons in Association with C.K Greaves, Cash Money Investment and the News newspaper also placed fourth and fifth respectively in the Best use of colour category, while ‘Dragons’ tied for third place in the Individual of the year category with “Travel of Marco Polo” portrayed by Andrew “Guy” Sutherland.(OS)
