The Competition, which ran from April 1 to April 25, allowed LIME’s customers to text at local rates for a chance to win $5,000 which would be donated to finance a sports related project at the school of their choice. Projects could include the improvement of an existing sports facility; the purchase of sports-related equipment and supplies; or the establishment of a new facility.

The text competition formed part of LIME’s strong promotional and community support for the 2011 CARIFTA Games which were held in Montego Bay, Jamaica from April 22- 25. LIME, the Caribbean’s leading Telecoms Company, was the Presenting Sponsor of this year’s Games, having provided a massive US $400,000 towards the staging of the event and the broadcast of live coverage to 23 countries.

In addition, LIME also provided financial support for national teams attending the Games in most of the 13 Caribbean countries where the company operates. Here in St Vincent and the Grenadines the national team received LIME Mobile TV handsets.

Angus Steele, General Manager for LIME said: “The presentation of this prize is the culmination of one of the most exciting and memorable sponsorships LIME has done in St Vincent and the Grenadines and the Caribbean. We were very pleased to have given the people of SVG the chance to be a part of the excitement of the CARIFTA Games and also to have given our customers a chance to win something tangible and lasting for the school of their choice.”

“We certainly hope that this refurbishing of the New Grounds Primary school playing field will go a far way in enhancing the school’s sporting programme and helping to prepare our student athletes for future regional and international competition. Last year we gave the Brighton Primary School a table tennis facility which is now being used to host table tennis development programs to kids in the Brighton area”, Steele added.

Sampson-Williams emerged the winner of the competition where customers were asked to Text Gold to 5463. In addition to naming the school’s project, she also won a Samsung Galaxy tab.

When contacted about her winnings, the very elated winner commented: “I have never won anything before and to win such an exciting prize is a milestone for me. I will always remember this moment. Added to this, my name will always be inscribed on the project to refurbish the playing field because my nephew attends to that school. Thanks to LIME.”
