The faithful gathered at Heritage Square in Kingstown for the annual event, which saw leaders of various Christian denominations take to the stage, making prayerful supplications and requests on behalf of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

The prayers included prayers of thanksgiving, prayers of repentance, prayers for the nation, national unity and reconciliation, the economy and businesses, schools and young people, the judiciary, and against crime and violence, the health sector, the media, churches and families, among other areas.

Delivering a sermonette at the rally was Pastor Stephen Ollivierre, who preached on the day’s theme: “Prayer Changes Thing”.

“Prayer changes things when there is effective fervent prayer.”

“What is it that makes our prayer effective? It is putting your whole self, all your attention, your mind, your will and your emotions on that thing that you are praying for.”

“Fervent prayer will make a difference in the lives of people, but we must understand that it takes effort and a sacrifice of our time.”

Ollivierre also said that prayer changes things when the persons who are praying are righteous, through faith in Jesus Christ, and that prayer changes things when persons understand what it can accomplish.

Also speaking at the rally was Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves, who called for special prayers for the poor and weak, and called for Vincentians to bond together, love one another and forgive each other. “And when we do that, do so as well as we should, we should say ‘Almighty God forgive us. We have sinned and we have not done as well in accordance with what you have instructed us so to do.’”

“We have to affirm to our faithful God ‘ I will praise you with all my life, I will sing to you with all my heart, I will trust in you my hope and my help, my make and my faithful God.’”
