Starting off with just a staff of three persons, SVGTV was born, which brought about the creation of St. Vincent and the Grenadines Broadcasting Corporation (SVGBC).

That man, Paul Macleish, who for the last 31 years has been the Managing Director of SVGBC, along with a seven-member Board of Directors, created the company. Macleish bought the company from Kenrick Lewis and went to work. Now thirty-one years later, the company has developed into an outstanding media organisation with three radio frequencies and one Television station.

Candice Sealey, Marketing Manager of the SVGBC, told Searchlight that the company’s 31st anniversary is a great acheivement and is due to the hard work of staff and the support of the public and business partners over the years.

The television station, which can be accessed throughout St. Vincent and the Grenadines, features a variety of local programmes, such as the SVGTV News and Sports, Sports Week, The Law and You and Total Inspiration TV, among others. The company, Sealey said, has made great improvements since 31 years ago. The current staff numbers about 40 persons, which include persons directly involved in production, news teams, camera men, technicians, radio announcers, Djs, and administrative staff.

Sealey stated that the improvements of SVGTV can be seen in the general increase in local content aired. She added that regional content is also aired on SVGTV. Other improvements include the quality of information relayed through different programmes on the TV’s channel , Channel nine. Sealey related that they have been able to broadcast live from various communities throughout St. Vincent and the Grenadines. She added that the news team within SVGTV and other personnel have also advanced their skills, having been exposed to training and other opportunities.

Sealey also expressed her hopes for the future of the Television station. She stated that she hopes that the SVGTV News and Sports can get to the standard of BBC or CNN, with more in-depth investigative reporting and many more features. She added that the company will continue to improve in all aspects, as it relates to output and programming to ‘stay ahead of our game.”
