The announcement was made on Monday morning, hours after Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves asked enthusiastic Unity Labour Party (ULP) supporters at a rally at Biabou not to come into Kingstown today, Tuesday, to show support to the Government.

The Opposition New Democratic Party had been, for the last week, mobilizing supporters to come into Kingstown today to protest the proposed amendment to the Representation of the People Act, and the amendment to the Criminal Procedure Code which passed on January 28, 2011.

When Parliament adjourned at midnight on Friday, January 28, Leader of the House, Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves announced that the house stood suspended until Tuesday, February 8, when the Representation of the People (Amendment) Bill 2011 will be considered.
