“Until lions write their own history, the tale of the hunt will always glorify the hunter” is the theme under which the SVG Broadcasting Corporation will be celebrating Black History Month this year.{{more}} With the media playing a pivotal role in disseminating information, Head of Sales & Marketing of SVGBC, Candice Sealey, stated that their three radio stations and TV station will use the month as an opportunity to show how one can demonstrate pride in our creativity as black people, show respect for our intellectual prowess and celebrate our cultural identity, which is far too often misrepresented.

The month will see Ezee Radio, SVGTV and Total Inspiration 100.5 initiating a book reading initiative through the ‘Black Author Series’. The initiative, which also falls in line with literacy awareness throughout many primary schools, is designed to highlight successful black authors, their history, excerpts from their books as well as any contribution their books made to the education of black people and their development as a whole. Sealey added that it is hoped that through this activity the public as a whole, especially students, will use the opportunity to read more and improve their knowledge of black scholars.

Ezee Radio’s on air activities will be further enhanced with the launch on 7th February of ‘Black Music Legacy’, which is designed to highlight music of black origin and the impact that they have had on the music scene as a whole or the genre of music they sing. On the other hand, Hitz 103.7 & SVG TV will host the Black Inventor series – A look at the great and often unrecognized leaders in the field of invention and innovation.
