Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCV)  arrive in SVG


St.Vincent and the Grenadines received five new Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers on January, 6, 2011.{{more}}

The JOVC was inaugurated in 1965 and is a principal programme of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). These new JOCV Volunteers are trained and qualified professionals in a variety of technical disciplines. Their fields of work are Environmental Education, Visual Art, Vegetable Production and Rural Community Development. The volunteers specializing in Visual Arts are experienced professionals who will be assigned to the Curriculum Unit in the Ministry of Education, where they will transfer their knowledge to others via workshops and training seminars.

The volunteer working in Vegetable Production will be assigned to CARDI at the Rabbaca Farms and will work along with the local farmers through the Ministry of Agriculture. The volunteer working in Rural Community Development will be assigned to the Owia Fisheries Centre under the Fisheries Division, and the volunteer working with Environmental Education will be assigned to the Environmental Management Department. They will work at the local level in St.Vincent to best meet this country’s needs. The volunteers visited Government House and met with the Governor General, Sir Frederick Ballantyne.
