The dates were disclosed by Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves yesterday, Monday, January 10, at what was the first of a series of consultations with various state and private sector organizations.

“The Constitution goes on to say that when the Estimates are approved by the House, the Appropriation Bill is then introduced,” PM Gonsalves indicated.

He further explained that while the Constitution mandates that the Estimates for the new fiscal year be presented within 30 days of the end of the previous one, there was no fixed time for the Appropriation Bill to be presented.

“But we would like to do this as swiftly as possible,” the prime minister said.

The series of consultations was expected to continue this morning with a breakfast meeting with members of the business community, and will continue tomorrow, Wednesday, when PM Gonsalves said that he will engage members from the farming and fishing communities.

The final consultation will take place on Thursday, January 13, a consultation with the public, via radio.(DD)
