UWI Open Campus holds 6th Annual Graduation


Today, Friday, January 7, 2010, will see the staging of the 6th annual graduation of the UWI Open Campus at the Methodist Church Hall.{{more}}

The event which will take place from 9am will see 32 students receiving their master’s, bachelor’s, diploma and certificate accreditation in numerous fields.

In an interview, UWI Open Campus Head Dr Adrian Fraser said that the ceremony would give “recognition of the hard work the students have put in and the successes they have achieved.”

Dr Fraser said that he hopes the event would ” inspire others” and that he was “pleased that students continue to strive for higher education while they are at home.”

The university chief pointed out that the institution was looking at various courses to ensure that a wider cross section of accademic disciplines is introduced.

Featured speaker will be former CEO of the Chamber of Commerce Shafia London and the valedictorian will be Cleo Rogers who received First Class honours for her B.Ed degree in Educational Administration.

Two other students also received first class honours: Ania Browne with a BA in Hotel Management and Kervern James BSc in Chemistry and Math.

Dr Ian Austin will be representing Director of the Open Campus Hazel Simmons Mc Donald, while 14 tutors will also be in attendance.

Chief Marshall Paul Lewis will lead the procession with music from the cadet band and all are asked to be seated by 8:30am for the ceremony which begins at 9am.

There are currently 255 students attending the UWI Open Campus.
