Lewis received his cheque during a handing over ceremony at the NLA headquarters on Tuesday, January 4, 2011.

Lewis, a resident of Byera, purchased the winning ticket on the Tuesday, November 2, 2010, at Uncle Toad’s shop in Byera. He, however, waited two months until he handed in the winning ticket.

Speaking at the press conference, Lewis explained that when he realized that he had won, he decided to wait until after the Christmas season to collect his winnings, as he would have had too much money to spend.

Lewis, who is a mason and a carpenter, further explained that the ticket was a Quick Pick that he had played repeatedly. “It never changed,” he said, referring to the numbers on the ticket. The winning numbers were 01, 14, 18, 19 and 21. Lewis received $384,300 from the $427,000 jackpot after government tax was deducted.

Lewis explained that when he found out that he had won, he kept the ticket secured and kept his winnings a secret until last week.

Marketing Manager of the NLA Anthony Dennie congratulating Lewis reminded persons who have won 3D, Lotto or Super 6 Jackpots that they must present their winning tickets to the NLA within 180 days (6 months) to claim their winnings.

“I know there are certain persons who want to have time to think and recollect their mind, and make the right decision in terms of investment. Just to say to persons out there that there is a 180 day time frame…” Dennie said.

Dennie also urged the winner of the Super -6 Jackpot, which was won on Old Year’s night, to come forward. The winning numbers in the Super-6 draw were: 4, 6, 17, 23, 24, 27.

General Manager of the NLA McGregor Sealy congratulated Lewis on his win, advising him to use the money wisely.

Sealy also thanked the loyal customers of the NLA, adding that the organization topped the $50 million mark in terms of sales for their last financial year.(OS)
