The young women, who were whittled down from approximately 60 applicants, gained the judges’ nods in the preliminary rounds.

This competition is one of the three that will take place at the Star FM Digicel SVG Fun Fest Finals at the Arnos Vale Playing Field.

Show organiser Colin ‘Mastermind’ Graham said that the idea for the competition was pitched to him by Carib Beer representatives, who wanted to set up a stall at SVG Fun Fest and maximise advertising for the brand.

“We were looking for girls who are eautiful…sexy…talented…and who know what it takes to sell a Carib beer,” explained Graham.

The finalists are Melissa Roberts, 18; Jovonne ‘Duffy’ John, 20; Rickesha Douglas, 20; Cizanne Todd, 18; Jolesa James, 19; Joline Baptiste, 18; Afifa Thomas, 19; Kevorn ‘Kay-Kay’ Hamblett, 25; Korisha Lee, 22; Juverni April Compton, 20; Patricia Williams, 20; and Hencia John, 20.

On the night of the finals, they will make appearances in Swim Wear and Promotional Speech, and will also have brief biographies read about them while they strike their best poses on stage.

The young women, who were kitted out in Carib Beer vests and figure-hugging jeans, preened and posed for the media – each one, undoubtedly, feeling confident that she will walk away with the top prize of $500 and a 1-year contract with Carib Beer.

The winner will also be given the accolade of Head Carib Girl.

Eight of the contestants will qualify to be the official St. Vincent & the Grenadines Carib Girls, and will be given 1-year contracts to feature in radio and television commercials, posters and other print advertising.

The competitors were coached by Anique François and Aviar Charles.(JV)
